Da Brat Out on Work Release

May 27th, 2010 | By Safiyyah

Word has it that Da Brat is out of prison on work release. She was sentenced to three years in jail after having a brutal altercation with an aspiring model/Atlanta cheerleader named Shayla Stevens. The female rapper hit Shayla in the face with a bottle of rum, causing lacerations and nerve damage (ouch!).

Da Brat

This took place back in November of 2007 and now she is supposedly out on work release. She was on Jermaine Dupri’s Living the Life blog, saying that she was out on a pass and visiting her lawyer. The work release program she is on involves her making windows daily from 9 to 5.

“I’m out on a little pass,” Brat said before thanking fans for all their support while she was in lock-up. “I got a job. I work 9 [a.m.] to 5 [p.m.] because I’m in the work release program. I make windows, so if you need a window, holler at your girl.”

“I’m doing my thing, when I come out I’ma be making windows, music, movies, TV shows, anything I can get my hands on,” Da Brat said. “It’s too much grass done grew up while I aint do nothing all this time and it got on my nerves. I’m fittin to come out and run..fast.”

Da Brat, born as Shawntae Harris, didn’t release any details about her upcoming music work, but I’m sure we’ll hear something about it soon.

50 Cent Loses 50 Pounds

May 27th, 2010 | By Safiyyah

If you haven’t seen rapper 50 Cent lately, you might want to check him out. Although, you may not recognize him completely because he done lost 50 pounds. Yes, the rapper does look very sickly, but before you go running off to tell everyone that 50 Cent is probably dying from an incurable disease, you should know that his weight loss was intended. He lost the pounds to play a role in a movie that he wrote. This won’t be a big box office hit, which many folks are criticizing him for, “why do something so drastic for a low-budget DVD film?” He went from a diesel 214 pounds to 160 pounds.

50 cent

Well, the movie he will be starring in is about a college football player that is fighting cancer. This isn’t the first time an actor has lost a lot of weight or gained a lot of weight in order to play a role in a movie. Will Smith gained a lot to play as Mohammad Ali and then lost a lot of weight in the movie “Seven Pounds”. Then Matt Damon lost weight for “Courage Under Fire” and Christian Bail was thin for “The Machinist”.

It’s not official whether 50 Cent’s movie will hit theaters or not. Fifty Cent has played in a couple of films like “Get Rich or Die Trying” and alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in “Righteous Kill”. So what do you guys think? Do you feel that 50 Cent losing 50 pounds shows enough dedication to want to support the film?

Brandy and Ray J Could Have Another Sybling

May 26th, 2010 | By Safiyyah

There is a possibility that Brandy and Ray J could have an older brother by the name of Danyelle “C-Dove” Brown (yes, C-Dove is his rapper name, what a coincidence!). After soliciting the family for a DNA test, the father of Brandy and Ray J was a no-show, so Ray J and Brandy decided to submit to the paternity test to prove whether or not he is a kin to them.

A Family Business

Willie Ray Norwood Sr is their father, but no word has come from him about these claims. Danyelle took the test of May 22nd in Atlanta, Georgia, when Willie didn’t show up. “I don’t know if you really know but we planned for Mr. Norwood, which is my father, to come down and take DNA the test,” Brown told the test administrator. “I’m here trying to do the righteous thing. I wanna show a lot of people that I came down. I took care of my business. Apparently, no show for him. If he cared about the situation he would be here.”

The aspiring rapper, Danyelle, documented the process on a web show called Unfinished Family Business. As you can see, this is somewhat of a parody for Brandy and Ray J’s VH1 reality celebrity show, A Family Business.

Danyelle has yet to receive any word back from his estranged family, but he has spoken with Ray J before. Willie and Danyelle’s mother are both from Greenwood, Mississippi, but Danyelle was born in Chicago. He is 35 years old; recently he aired his grievances about wanting closure with his alleged family.

Common and Serena Split

May 26th, 2010 | By Safiyyah

After two years of dating and talks of potential marriage, the two celebrities have split. It hasn’t been made completely official by Serena and Common, but a close source of the rapper says that the two “grew apart”. An article was released in In Touch Magazine, stating that the actor/rapper Common is looking to focus more on his acting career.

Common and Serena Williams

The couple was spotted at the movie premiere of Date Night back in April, but then on May 4th, Serena Williams attended the premiere of Just Wright without him. Just last week, he was on the Wendy Williams show, where Common was talking about marriage. He said that it would be a great thing, but he couldn’t say that right now, and that he would love to be married and have children one day. If it happened to be Serena then it would be a “lovely thing” he stated. (Doesn’t seem like there will be any engagement rings poppin’ up any time soon).

In another interview, Common was talking about being one of the great actors and that acting was now his creative medium. Guess he caught the acting bug.

“My hip-hop background really can’t catapult me to where I want to be as an actor,” Common told The Philadelphia Inquirer last week. “I do acknowledge that hip-hop has built a foundation for me in the way that it allows me different experiences as a performer and taught me how to endure when you’re dealing with difficult situations. But acting is a different medium. I know I have to go through the process of training and the things that it takes to become a great actor. And my goal is to become one of the greatest.”

He has an upcoming album called The Believer, which is set to drop this coming Fall.
