Snoop’s Little League Team Faces Financial Problems; Lil Kim Opens Fifth Salon Franchise in NC
The Chicago division of the Snoop Youth Football League, or SYFL, isn’t looking too good financially these days and was forced to drop out of the season early. Yesterday, the Chicago team (the Pilsen Jets) was supposed to play in the playoff’s yesterday, but couldn’t afford their $22,000 debt for their uniforms and equipment. The sponsors of the team threatened to strip the team of its uniforms, helmets and pads if they played before the debt was paid. This is what a mother had to say about what’s going on:
“I don’t think it’s fair,” a parent named Betty Arias told the Fox News station in Chicago, “I think it’s more humiliating for them to show up there and asked to take off the equipment, asked to take off your uniform right after the game.”
A celebrity who is doing well in business is Lil Kim who is celebrating the opening of her newest hair salon, called Salon Se Swa, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has a couple of them open around the state, including in Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Rocky Mount. Her fifth addition is 3,600 sq ft was opened with her business partner Katrise Jones.
“This new location allows us to cater to a larger customer base and better serve the needs of not only Charlotte, but also its surrounding areas” Salon Se Swa owner Katrise Jones said in an interview. “We are extremely excited about our upcoming Customer Appreciation Day. Our clientele is vital to the success of our blossoming business. They appreciate the high end services that we provide and we in turn appreciate the, returning for a few hours each week, as they get dolled up and pampered.”

The 2011 All-Star Weekend
The 2011 All-Star Weekend was filled with lots of fashion, parties and fun – not to mention, games. Before we go into the fashion, let’s have a flashback of the weekend. On Friday, the Sophomore vs. Rookies game, the rookies won for the second year in a row. Then during the celebrity game, Justin Bieber was named MVP (go figure). Then tonight, the West beat the East once again in the All-Star game.
Now, onto the fashion. Lebron and Jay-Z threw a “2 Kings” annual dinner party, which attracted P. Diddy, Drake, Rihanna and other notables in the music and sports industries. It’s a dinner that is held for networking and for fellowship amongst stars. Jay-Z showed up wearing a grey tux with dark grey trim and a white shirt and bowtie. Diddy showed up wearing a slim all black suit and a pair of fashion sunglasses.
On Saturday of All-Star weekend, there were two sneaker launches – Ron Artest’s Ball’n line and Snoop Dogg’s Adidas X Snoop Dogg limited-edition sneakers. Ron Artest’s party took place at the Roosevelt Hotel and Snoop’s was at the Standard Hotel. Of course, Snoop didn’t get on stage til after 1 in the morning, but when he did he was wearing a Laker gold track ket that had the Adidas signature three stripes in purple. It also had 16 squares on the back that represented the Lakers’ NBA titles.
“Adidas is what real hip-hop is all about,” he enthused at one point. “They … with Snoop Dogg in a real way, you know?” he said at another, using a not-fit-for-a-family-newspaper colloquialism.
The athletes of the All-Star game entered the Staples Stadium wearing Adidas uniforms that were designed to pay homage to L.A. and the milestone of the All-Star game.
LL Cool J’s Wife Simone’s New Jewelry Line, SIS
It looks like LL Cool J isn’t the only one trying to make a mark in the fashion world – his wife Simone is planning to launch a jewelry business with her own jewelry line called Simone I Smith (SIS). LL Cool J has made his mark first through hip hop, then through television and the box office. Today, he is one of the stars in the hit series NCIS: Los Angeles. The two have been married for over 16 years now (glad to hear a celeb couple that is making it!).
In the Simone I Smith jewelry line, there are high-end earrings that are influenced by her Hip Hop upbringings. No, she’s not from Brooklyn (if you’re thinking about LL Cool Js lyrics in “Doing it Well”), but she is from Queens, New York (plus we know he has a thing for girls in bamboo earrings). You can pretty much say that the two had young love, meeting at the age of 17.
“I was 17-years-old when we met and I’ll always remember the day that he bought me those earrings,” Simone Smith said. “I’m definitely a ‘hoop’ girl. I’ve also been known to wear a pair of funky hoops on the red carpet, with a to-the-floor gown.”
For the past couple of years, Simone has been battling against a rare case of bone cancer. Her line of jewelry will soon feature other items like necklaces, rings, cuffs and bangles.
“My husband and my children definitely keep me feeling inspired and motivated,” Simone said. “I’m excited about making my brand a reality.”
“She’s been home with the kids for years, so it was time for me to say, ‘I wanna support what you’re doing,’” LL Cool J told The Talk during an appearance on February 14th.
