Lil Wayne Getting Sued Over “Bedrock” Single

August 2nd, 2011 | By

Remember the popular song “Bedrock” by Lil’ Wayne? Well, it looks as though he will be getting sued for….for $15 million large ones. The single was a big hit, hitting number 1 on the billboards back in December 2009 and selling 3 million copies. It was on Lil Wayne’s compilation album that was released in 2010, “We Are Young Money” (which is certified gold, selling 500,000 copies). The song featured other artists, including Nicki Minaj, Drake. Tyga, Gudda Gudda, Lloyd and Jae Millz.

The lawsuit was filed on August 1st by Done Deal Enterprises, a production company located in Waynesboro, Georgia. They are claiming that Lil’ Wayne stole their copyrighted song “Bedrock”, and used it for a track with the same name. The beat was originally produced by Kane Beatz. The lawsuit is against Lil’ Wayne, Universal Music Group, Cash Money Records and Young Money Records. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court , Southern district of New York.

They are scheduled to appear in court on October 12, 2011. None of Lil’ Wayne’s lawyers or representatives have made any return comments regarding this matter. This is yet another legal woe for the rapper, Dwayne Carter Jr., who was also sued by a couple of producers for unpaid royalties.

Shame, shame, shame. It looks like Lil’ Wayne doesn’t like to pay for the work that he uses. This isn’t going to look good on his resume. Who would want to work with a multi-millionaire who doesn’t like to share the wealth, even when its well-deserved? Pay your contractors!

Drake’s Uncle Passes Away and Ja Rule Gets Sentenced to Jail

July 18th, 2011 | By

A lot of folks were looking forward to the Drake concert that was supposed to take place on July 16th in Orlando, Florida at the Universal Orlando Resort (as part of the Universal Studios Concert Series). The reason he canceled the concert was due to the death of his uncle (the second artist in Young Money to have a death in the family this month – Nicki Minaj’s cousin died on July 4th).

Drake

“We regret to announce that Drake will not be able to take the stage at Universal Orlando Resort due to a death in the family,” a rep for Drake said in a statement released today. “He hopes that his fans understand the situation he finds himself in and know that he fully intends to return to the area in the future. He thanks Universal Orlando Resort and his fans for their continued support.”

Other unfortunate news was also received for other artists – but on a more criminal note. For one, Ja Rule will be serving another 2 years and has to pay $1.1 million owed from income taxes from earnings from 2004 to 2006. He failed to pay the $3 million that he was ordered to pay. He will also be serving time for attempted criminal possession of a weapon back in July of 2007. He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Ja Rule

“I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal,” Ja Rule said, reports the AP.

“I was a young man who made a lot of money — I’m getting a little choked up — I didn’t know how to deal with these finances…” said Ja Rule.

Lil’ Wayne’s World

December 25th, 2009 | By

There’s been a lot on the plate of Lil Wayne, dealing with everything from court dates, hip hop albums and his new rock album (yeah, he’s dipping in pretty much everything these days). You may not have heard a lot from him this year, but we have heard from others like Gucci Mane (who’s been sentenced to 12 months in jail for violation of probation) and Drake who have been said to have taken Lil’ Wayne’s template for their own use. So far, it looks like it’s working. In some songs, Drake even sounds like Lil’ Wayne, like in the song “You the Best” (I thought it was Lil’ Wayne when I first heard it). The Carter came back to release “We are Young Money”, which features various artists. It was created by Cash Money, Young Money and Universal Motown. Lil Wayne has been working with various artists, piecing together the group Young Money– two of them being Drake and Nicki Minaj. Nicki is taking charge in the female rapping industry and is known as today’s hardest working female rapper. Other artists in Young Money include Gudda Gudda, Jae Millz, Tyga, Lil Chuckee and Lil Twist.

Young Money

Also on Lil’ Wayne’s plate is his rock album, called “Rebirth”, which was accidentally leaked onto the internet when Amazon shipped out 500 or so pre-ordered CDs to customers. Rebirth was made by Universal Motown and Cash Money Records. Next year, Lil’ Wayne is scheduled to appear in court on Feb 9th for a gun possession charge that occurred in 2007. He is also set to start his sentence the same day. So far, his new group Young Money has produced two hits, “Every Girl in the World” and “Bedrock”. Hopefully Lil’ Wayne’s absence won’t slow down their productivity.
