Our interview with Twan Beatmaker
Talk about your family background, age, location and musical influences.
I'm 24 years old and right now I live on the South side of Atlanta, Ga. I am the fourth of ten kids. I have four sisters and five brothers. My grandma single-handedly raised six of us together. My main musical influences are The Runners, Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Polo Da Don and Mannie Fresh.
Describe your daily life as a producer and how you got started.
I wake up early to head to the gym. When I get home I spend time with my family. Then, I hit the studio until I basically pass out. Back in '06 I was introduced to FL Studio by my cousin Trey. The rest is history.
What do you think of hip hop today?
I don't really have much to say about the topic. Except, some hip hop is good and some just isn't.
Name some new artists/producers that you really like.
Drake, Meek Mill and Machine Gun Kelly.
How do you describe your style of music?
I don't have any one specific style of music. Lol. I can do it all.
What type of equipment do you use?
My basic set up is with FL Studio, my Motif XF, KRK Rokit 8's, Mbox Audio, dual monitors and of course my i7 Quad core CPU with 16 gigs of ram.
Which artists have you worked with?
Young Jeezy's label USDA, Lil' Chuckie from Young Money, Waka Flocka, Bankrollcharms, Jibbs, J R Writer, Calico Jones, Project Pat and thousands of Talented Artist.
As a producer, DJ or rapper, talk about your first live show and how it went, if any?
My first Live Show was at a club. It was amazing. People enjoying and dancing to your music is an extraordinary feeling.
Have you had any experience with groupies? How did it go down?
Yeah man, I've had plenty of groupies come my way. But, my wife shuts them down quick. Lol
What makes your music special?
My music is special because it's real. I always present the people with quality instrumentals.
Currently, how do you manage to generate income from your music, if any?
I generally use the internet to make revenue. Soundclick is one of the major sites I use.
What is your plan to reach your musical and financial goals?
I plan to keep doing what I'm doing. I will continue to work hard and to better myself in order to reach my goals.
